Another band of Fascists, in the hamlet of S. Pietro Capofiume, went to the Zaniboni-Saltarelli estate, where they compelled the tenants to accept as their share of the corn 50 per cent. instead of the 60 per cent. due to them under the agre.ement in force. They beat Presti Ezio and the whole of the Deserti family till they bled. Several bands entered the property of the Spada heirs, shooting everyone they met. The most seriously injured were the old Calzolari Paolo, who had been-beaten a few days before ; his son, Bertoncelli Augusto, his daughter Mainardi Settimia, a war widow, and -Cazzola Isolina. The old Calzolari was taken to the hospital in Bologna, where at first he was declared to be dying. He recovered atfer ~everal months in hospital. On ·the Spada estate two workmen were also beaten, Bergonzoni Gennaro '(for the sec·ond time) and Montanari Roberto. Oth,er bands went to,vards Marmorta, where they forced the door of the house of .Bagni Gaetano, entered it, beat him for the fourth time, reducing him within an inch of death, and beat his wife and his son Giuseppe. · The house of a workman, Magri Luigi, was surrounded, and he and his wife beaten. The whole of the Ariatti family were beaten. The whole of the family of Villani Luigi without distinction, men, women. and children, were beaten. Two workmen, Zucchini Marcello and Cocchi Angelo, were stopped and beaten by Fascists of the locality and from elsewhere. Several shots were . I 'fired at the house of Gardi Albino, also in the hamlet of Mortara. In the hamlet of S.
