On the 26th, after a meeting at the headquarters of the Fascia, two ban~s of Fascists formed and went off, one in the direction of the Saltarelli an_d Zaniboni property, and the other to the property of the heirs of Signor Spada. Their object was to secure the discharge by the farmers in the Confederation of Labour of the labourers belonging to the Confederation ·whom they were employing. The tenant farmer Bertoncelli and a sister of his, a war \vidovv, ,vere beaten ; also Selleri Alessandro, Selleri Ugo, and a sister of these t\vo> fifteen years old. This was on the Spada farm ; in the Saltarelli and Zaniboni property Mazzoni Augusto, a tenant fanner, and his wife wer·e beaten. On the 29th, ·while a working woman named Gardi Caterina, of the hamlet of S. Martino, was on her way to work she was attacked by a Fascist, throvvn to _the ground and cuffed. In the afternoon a Fascist band visited the tenant farmers of this region, Bignami, Monti, Zucchini, Fabbri, Cirolani, 'finarelli, Grassi, Giordani, etc., all members of the Confederation of Labour, and cornpelled them to discharge the workers belonging to the Confederation vvhom they were employing, beating the son of the tenant Giordani in his own dwelling. On the 27th a war wido,v, Gardi Amelia, of the hamlet of S. Martino, was arrested by carabineers, who were accompanied by the secretary of the Fascio. · Her two little children were left behind; she was detained 54 days, and then released pending inquiry. She was arrested again on August I 4 by the police, and detained a. further 24 days, without any judicial sentence.
