Thepicketingwasbothplannedandcarriedoutbyaninde- pendentcommitee,caled,fortheoccasion,TheCommitee toAvoidWorldWar III.WhentheCommiteetoAvoid WorldWarIIIdecidedatthelastminutetoshiftthedemonstrationtoWashington,theC.N.V.R.wasneitherfinancially ablenortacticalydesirousofconductingahastilyplannedand disruptive,rivaldemonstrationatOakRidge.Severalmembers oftheCNVRmadethetrip toWashingtonwishingthat it werepossibletohavealargerandmoremilitantdemonstration atOakRidge,butanxioustosupportwhateverpublicprotest wasbeingmadeagainstthemanufactureandtestingof the atombomb. (2) Alongwiththecouragetotakeactionindefianceof thepolice,thestate,andtheconservativebusinessunions, seriousrevolutionistsrequirethecouragetosetasideintelec- tualduties,onoccasion,inordertoparticipatedirectlyinthe currentstruggles.Ourwordsgraduallylosetheirfeshness andwebecomeholowmenunlessourpersonallivesreflect ourideals,bothofresistanceandofbrotherhood.
