SUMMARY The reconctruction of the Spanish CNT and its subsequent development, has produced an undeniable euphoria amongst the various libertarian movements, which is certainly understandable given their minority status., On the question of Spain, however, its necessary to open one's eyes and to 1tot let yourself be carried awar, by mythical representation of what the Spanish CNT is (and/or possibly could be). This article, therefore, attempts a critical overview of the Spanish libertarian movement in its present condition, with the intent of reestablishing a few (as with all truths they are only partial) regarding the process of reconstruction with all its triumphs and its failurès. From the meeting of the 29th February 1976 (held in Sanz) onwards, which represents the start of a great ptocess of recuperation of the working class vocation of Spanish anarchism, the events which followed were numerous and complex. There was no doubt that everything was still to be done: it meant starting from scratch with all the irritations and angèr which had accumula1ed during the many years of clandestinity. Right from the start the unification of the various groups and tendencies inside the re-emergent CNT have posed problems of cohabitation and naturally have also led to not only confrontations but also to all-out attempts at hegemony at the insistence of various « churches » claiming orthodoxy.. Even at that time the first symptoms of an internai crisis were showing themselves which, at the present time, still remains to be resolved. On the other hand, the systematic study of the internai life of the resurgent CNT (the various meeting and conferences) gives us sôme idea of the complexity of the problem becoming increasingly clearer in the course of four national assemblies (July 1976, September 1976, September 1977 and April 1978). Despite all the internai conflicts, the irresponsibility of certain sectors, and âttacks of the authorities (the Scala case), its development is impressive even if it is less spectacular than certain people would claim. The CNT remains, however, way below its capabilities and this can be partly explained by a certain powerlessness in the union sphere. 102
